A conference call, as per some tech web sites, is a telephone call in which the calling party wishes to have more than one called party to listen in to the audio portion of the call. The conference calls may be designed to allow the called party to participate during the call, or the call may be set up so that the called party merely listens into the call and cannot speak. It is often referred to as an Audio Tele-Conference. This type of call is being used mainly in business firms and large companies where they usually use it during formal meetings if two or more people are not available to physically be there. Most telephone companies may charge differently when it comes to this kind of feature and may even cost a lot for some. However, there is also what they call the free phone conference call, which is basically different from conventional conference calling where the organizer of the conference call pays either a flat rate fee or per minute charge or a mixture of both. It has no organizer fees and allows for multiple people to meet at the price of their long distance connections. This way, phone owners wouldn’t have to pay too much when they badly need to make use of this technology.
