Technology and Energy Matters

Technology nowadays has become so apparent that some people just can’t seem to live without it anymore. People have become so dependent on electronic things such as computers, portable music players and games, cell phones and some other gadgets that we usually see nowadays, but though these were made for us to have easier and better lives, it is also a fact that we use a lot of electricity everyday to be able to use them or at least charge them so they could work. This is why people are encouraged to save energy everyday so at least, we could lessen the oil and energy usage for far better things. Energy saving should start inside the house. The mere effort of turning off appliance like radio and television when not in use is highly appreciated already and could contribute a lot. Some people buy some replacement windows and turn the old ones in to energy efficient windows so electricity would not be used too much. Replacement window cost might get to be a little expensive due to construction expenses, but if you look at it closely, you are basically preparing for the future because the result of this would be felt in the long run.

  • Electricity Is My Way of Life

I am working for a construction company as one of the engineers and even though I don’t really work on the hard stuff, I still have to wear safety gears, just in case something happens within the construction site. Just yesterday, I bought a new pair of Caterpillar boots and work jackets because my old Timberland boots have already been worn out due to excessive usage, and the work jackets, because I just wanted to have something new.

I work as an electrical engineer for the company and I always take care of everything that has to do with the electrical wirings of the whole building. I am the one who gives and designs the plans for the whole thing, which lines should be connected with each other and where switches should be located in each floors. Sometimes, when really needed, I am the one who places the wires, especially when electrical wirings in some offices are included in the job order. So basically, I’m not just working intellectually, but physically as well. Everything should be done with proper calculations because any mistake, big or small, can cause big tragedy t everyone, and I am really thankful that nothing like that has ever happened to me in the whole seven years of my career. As of the moment, there are two projects that we are working on and they are almost finished with the construction of the outer layers. Once done, I will simultaneously have people work on the wirings so it would be easier to handle.

  • Lines, Maps and More Lines

Contour lines are lines drawn on a map that are connecting points of equal height. A contour line, which is also known as level set, isopleth, isoline, isobar, isogram or isarithm, of a function of two variables is a curve along which the function has a constant value. In cartography, a contour line, more commonly just called a “contour”, joins points of equal elevation, which is the height, above a given level, such as mean sea level. A contour map is a map illustrated with contour lines, for example a topographic map, which thus shows valleys and hills, and the steepness of slopes. The contour interval of a contour map is the difference in elevation between successive contour lines. Something I learned while we were studying about maps and elevation data when we went to a museum the other day. It was a really great experience because I was able to learn a lot about how lands are formed and a lot more things that I never thought I’ll be able to understand, not even in my dreams. At this point, it should be easier for me to read maps now since I already have better understanding about it and should help me a lot, especially when having a road trip.

  • Getting In to the Industry

I’m trying to get in to the signs and signage industry right now as I try to improve my craft in making artworks and advertizing at the same time. I think I can do a lot with it since I’m very well trained in Adobe and Corel programs, as well as some other computer programs that I know will be good in this kind of printing business. I’m currently doing some independent works like doing some UK school signs and taking some post mounted signs projects from other small business, but I think it would be better if I try to get in to the big companies first so I could learn more of the way of the trade. It should make me more capable of doing this for an eventual larger business venture within this field. Once I get enough information from the usual way of doing this, I’ll try to associate it with my techniques and add some of my own flavors to it to see what I could come up with. It seems like an easy task, but then again, it will need a lot of patience since looking for jobs nowadays seems to have become an Olympic game now, where you get a lot of competition for just a slot of three.
